the story of a little girl from jeju.
born in incheon, ryujin moved to stay with her maternal grandparents in jeju when she was 2. this is due to her family being poor at that time and they couldn't afford to take care of another child. she was born prematurely and the doctors thought she wouldn't survived because she was so small but she did hence why her grandparents always call her as wandungie (완둥이) which means pea in korean.
after the death of her grandparents, she was adopted by one of the grandparent's close friend due to being abandon by her parents when she was 6. ryujin's parents got a divorce during the same year.
once she turn 13, ryujin gained fame for winning asian art competition which caused her to be more anxious from the attention of people and the media. despite hating the fame she got, it does benefits her in the end when she got scholarship to pursue her studies at an elite highschool in seoul. what ryujin thought would be a dream school for her turn into a nightmare when she got bullied severely for her jeju's dialect and timid personality and left her with severe trauma from the time she spent there.
because of the things going on in school, she would skipped classes just to go drinking or do other things with her friends that were mostly grown ups at that time. she finds solace with them because they were the only ones who made her feel safe and the only adults that she could trust. her teachers and school system had failed her when they decided to swipe her bullying cases under the rug since the students who did that to her comes from influential families.
altho her birth name is shin ryujin, she changed her surname to hwa ryujin as she felt closer to her adoptive family than her real family when she was 13.
once graduating from high school, ryujin decided to not pursue her studies and started working professionally as an artist instead. not only that, ryujin also decided to cut off ties with the bad influences she used to hangout with during her high school years when she realized that they were trying to make her do things that doesn't align with her moral views.
growing up, while she never heard from her parents again after being abandon, she remained in contact with her older brothers through letters and phone calls until she was 13. ryujin only reconnected with her real family after a tragedy that happened to her late brother in september 2021. the only family member she remains in no contact with is her mother.
headcanons & tidbits.
her adoptive family has a farm for sunflowers, hallabong and tangerine. back when she was in primary and middle school, she usually helps them to harvest and sell the items during school breaks.
her late grandparents used to adopts a lot of cats and even feed the strays hence why ryujin's fanatic love for them. because of this too, ryujin and her neighbor ahjumma would usually go out and feed the stray animals around their apartment complex.
was in a band in middle school and highschool - mostly playing the drums but sometimes switches to bass.
a big fan of iu, shinee and day6 ever since she was young. she actively goes to their concert and fan signings other than just enjoying their music. although she listens to mostly indie korean artists (bands, rnb singers) she does enjoy 가요 music a lot. especially the ones in the early 2000 and late 90s.
she used to smoke cigarettes eversince she was in school due to stress. her family members doesn't know of this except for her oldest brother. she also rarely smokes with other people as it is a habit that she is not proud of. she did in fact tried to stop smoking before in july-september 2021 but started again due to relapse after her brother's death. currently stopped smoking since april 2022.
despite having driving license for both car and motorcycle as well as owning her own transportation, ryujin rarely drives and usually take the public transport instead. she usually drives or rides them when she's in a rush or need to bring anything with her instead.
rarely drinks coffee unless she needs caffeine to stay awake since it makes her anxious. a habit that she also has when she's anxious is that she'll start to fidget with her hands and/or legs and have trouble focusing on the current situation or people. sometimes she would even word vomit when she's spiraling as well.
due to her past toxic relationships, ryujin finds it hard to pursue and commit to any romantic advances since she's wary that it could be another lesson for her to learn yet again. to help her gain her confidence, she usually tend to make flirty remarks towards her friends.
sometimes to deal with her anxiousness, she would end up running around the park or random trails until she gets tired. would use exercise as one of her coping mechanism to deal with her insomnia as well.
used to have unhealthy relationships with drug usage and alcohol intake. currently breaking free from it after coming back from jeju.

"you're telling me.. you know, like know know me." ㅡ at first when ryujin said she's moving back to jeju, the real reason was to find herself. despite having good intentions, most of her nights there were spent intoxicated at different places instead. she would get entangled with short term intimacy by sleeping with different people during nights as distraction from facing her problems back then. your muse could be one of the people that she used or the people that she interacted with during her drunken nights.
"oh, right. it's been a long time." ㅡ your muse and ryujin used to go to middle/high school together and finally meet again. she doesn't keep in contact with people from the people from her past due to trust issues but perhaps the relationship our muses shared was somewhat special to both of them hence why the reunion would be somewhat sentimental.
"it's nice to see you around again." ㅡ ryujin used to volunteer regularly at elderly home and animal shelters but having to move to jeju for four months and disappearing for two months before that, your muse could be a regular at the volunteer place as well.

relationship ryujin remembers him as someone who was cold and distant. isn't expressive, always tend to be keeping distance from her and doesn't talk much. when she was little and staying with her grandparents, even talking on the phone with him was awkward. the only time he was expressive was when he came to visit and gave her gifts. now as an adult, he tries to mend the relationship between them after her brothers death but ryujin remains to have problem letting go at the fact that both of her parents decided to abandon her when she was small.

relationship just like her father, ryujin's mom was also emotionally and physically absent in her life even during her younger days. most of her memories with her mother was tied with her grandmother since she would often hear her trying to persuade ryujin's mom in taking back ryujin when her condition worsen in her final days. tried to reconcile their relationship back in may, 2021 but after knowing that her mother never regrets about abandoning her, ryujin decided to cut ties. she also founds out she has a half-sister and that her mom got remarried soon after the divorce from her father. has a hard time forgiving her mother as she had thought she wasn't enough to be loved to be receiving it from her.

relationship growing up, ryujin was loved by seokhyung a lot as she was the only daughter in the family. ryujin has always been fond of him as he would always call her everyday to ask about how she is while they were apart (at the time, he stayed with their father while she was in jeju.) as he was helping their father with his barber shop along with having other part-time jobs, he would sometimes ship items to ryujin and inserts letters in them. they grew apart while ryujin was going through puberty but got closer again after reuniting with the whole family. he is now one of the closest family member ryujin has and they would meet up often for family dinners with his wife and daughter, yebin.

cause of death suicide after being severely bullied in the military camp. investigation was carried out after ryujin's family fight for it but was quickly closed due to important people being involved in the case.

relationship just like seokhyung, ryujin was also close to his brother sungchul. they shared the same hobbies and interest so they would be on the phone talking about cartoons and manhwas a lot. unlike seokhyung's and ryujin's relationship, the two lost contact when he suddenly stopped calling. she never heard from him until his sudden death news that was delivered by their dad. while fighting to know about the truth of her brother's death, she learnt that not only was he bullied in military but things at their aunt place where he was staying was also bad for him. ryujin still grieves over his death till this day.

relationship him and ryujin has a normal father-daughter dynamic where he can be aloof in expressing his emotions and affections. ryujin took a long time to trust him after being accepted in the family but after sharing the same passion in art, he was the one that mentored ryujin in her early days when she decided to learn pottery. he is very supportive of ryujin's choices in life as he was also the one that suggested she should learn drum and bass if she wants to. introduced ryujin to the world of rock and punk music and also the one responsible for having ryujin entering and winning the asian art competition.

relationship just like her early relationship with her adoptive father, ryujin took a long while before she gets comfortable and able to trust yoosun as well. they started bonding with each other over tv shows that would play during dinner time. yoosun is a well-known park bogum fan as ryujin would always buy merchandise relating to the actor and even gift them as her christmas present once. after becoming an avid fan of idol groups herself, they started getting more closer and would support each other hobbies. yoosun and ryujin's relationship are more like sisters rather than mother-daughter but when she needs guidance over important choices, yoosun would always be stern in advising her. after quitting the art industry, their old studio in jeju was given up as ryujin's personal space.

캐미쩐다 or cool chemistry is two-story gallery cafe located in the bustling mapo-gu. with chic and modern looking exterior as well as unique interiors, it's a growing hot place among the youngsters or people who loves art. serving coffee and non-coffee beverage, the cafe also has their own sweet desserts to go along with the drinks on the first floor. customers and the public are allowed to roam freely in the space and appreciate the artworks that are being put around the cafe.on the second floor, there's a gallery space for new artists to showcase their artwork along with small shop where the public can purchase ryujin's and other artists' merchandise, prints as well as artworks. not only that, there is also a closed area for people who wants to rent the place for workshops or performances such as small standups or showcases. the cafe also uses this space for a monthly open mic session for anyone that is usually being held on sunday of the end of every month.when creating this space, ryujin is rather inspired to give chances to people who are unsure how to promote their art or where to start. wanting to bring art closer to people and not just limited to people who are higher up or in the industry, she came up with this concept of "gallery cafe" where people can come and enjoy art as simple as having brunch or desserts. since she also does not enjoy the spotlight despite gaining them regularly over her work, she decided to give opportunities to other people who needs them and would like to help and push more newer artist to gain more exposure over their artworks instead.to be also noted: the tallest floor in the same building which is the third floor is not open to the public is ryujin's personal studio and office. sometimes ryujin would open workshops or classes in public but except for those times, it remains a personal space for her only.
